City of Oakbrook Terrace Public Works Facility Case Study
City of Oakbrook Terrace, located in eastern DuPage County, issued a Design-Build Proposal Solicitation to provide design and construction management services for construction of a new 26,000sf Public Services Facility. The new building was to be constructed on a vacant three-acre site adjacent to IL State Route 83, which had been acquired by the City from a neighboring cemetery.
The City’s outline scope of the project included space for maintaining and dispatching the City’s fleet of public works vehicles including. The most significant efforts for IPRM were during the pre-bid planning process. It was during this process of Design-Build planning that IPRM researched and assembled the project team to create solutions for key challenge areas in the design of this project. IPRM approached this process as an advocate of the owner to find the most affordable, sustainable and approachable solutions. During this process key project challenges presented themselves within the project specifications: Poor Soil Conditions, Exterior Materials Storage Location, Underground Water Retention and lastly achieve LEED certification for new construction.
